Howard Lindzon talks Wallstrip, The Blogging Times and TV
I don’t know why, but quite some people I’ve spoken to in the blogosphere the past year have had something against Howard Lindzon. Some say he has corrupted The Blogging Times, others just don’t like the guy. I don’t know about that, but I’m a big fan of Wallstrip, the stock web TV show that Howard is involved in, and I check in at The Blogging Times every now and then.
Wallstrip alone prompts for an interview in my book. If you think Howard is a bit short on the answers every now and then, it’s because he seems addicted to his Blackberry. Perhaps we should all chip in and get the poor guy to a clinic?
Anyway, here goes.
Before getting down to business, could you tell me a little bit of your background? Where do you come from, professionally, and what made you enter the blogosphere?
I am Canadian and American :0. Born in Toronto and living in Phoenix for 18 years with 2 kids a wife and dog. I spend summers with family in Toronto. My fund investments led me to the blogosphere researching venture capital and I started reading Brad Feld and Fred Wison.
You’re involved in The Blogging Times, what’s your role there?
At The Blogging Times I am just involved in some writing and writing checks for now.
How’s it going for The Blogging Times? Have the recent relaunch given you a boost or what?
TBT is growing every month. I like the colors and styles and availability for ads on the new design for sure.
I’m a big fan of Wallstrip, the stock show that you’re producing. What made you do it?
The show was inspired by the strategy that I love best – long-term trend following and less is more. Less trading, fewer ideas, more thinking about trends and longer term themes. Plus I hate TV and finally kicked CNBC and trading so I have nothing but time. I am unemployable in the real world.
Will the web kill TV as we know it, or what will happen?
The web won’t kill TV. TV may kill TV. I think the way we watch TV is changing as rapidly as ever with TIVO and TIVO like features and soon the Apple iTV.
Lindsay Campbell, the lovely host, has gotten quite a following. Where did you find her?
Lindsay answered an ad in Craigslist with 600 other ladies in New York. Crazy. Needle in a haystack.
Crazy indeed! Did you ever consider hosting the show yourself?
Me hosting was never a consideration.
Wallstrip uses Revver rather than the more common Youtube for delivering the show. Why?
Good question. Revver offered us the best widget solution that allows us to network our show. We just want people to see it we don’t care where. Revver is a higher quality picture as well.
And it makes you money…?
Revver is used for the widget so that other sites can carry the show. We make a little but not much.

And finally, you have a bunch of own investments according to your blog. What should the Bloggertalks readers put their money on right now?
Diversify. Pick 10 stocks in 5 great growth industries and stay the course. I only buy the strongest stocks. It is risky of course. Really though it depends on your risk and horizon. There is no right answer for this. Next question
.
Aw, come on, give us something solid now! One stock, one good buy…?
I like Apple. Always will. Buy dips
With that I urge you to check out Wallstrip, the stock web show, as well as The Blogging Times and Howard’s own blog. Thanks Howard!

Thanks for the interview
Thank you, Howard.
Nice interview.
How is the Blogging Times doing compared to Blog Herald and 901AM? Is it a big site?
As far as I know The Blog Herald is the biggest of the sites. I’m a bit uncertain as how close 901am and The Blogging Times are to each other though. Howard would know more of course.
